AN INDULGENT WINE COUNTRY GETAWAY AT THE SANTA YNEZ INN
By Tara | Santa Ynez, CA
The Santa Ynez Inn is the place to stay if you’re looking to experience all that Santa Barbara wine country has to offer.
Santa Barbara, with its beautiful beaches and coastal climate, it’s sometimes easy to forget that just beyond the bordering mountains lies a passageway to California’s Western past. From rustic vineyards, sprawling ranches, and seemingly untouched chaparral-covered land, the essence of the Old West is still alive. But don’t be fooled; today, the valley’s Victorian charm comes with an added dose of luxury. While mingling California history with plenty of tasting rooms, upscale shops, and art galleries, the Santa Ynez Valley offers visitors an indulgent wine country getaway. And there’s no better place to experience it all than the Santa Ynez Inn.
Today, Tara’s sharing her indulgent wine country getaway at the Santa Ynez Inn with Santa Barbara food columnist, Kara Pearson.
We knew a stay at the Santa Ynez Inn would be nothing short of luxurious, but we were delightfully surprised by its 1940s flare. The sparkling chandeliers, oversized mirrors, carved cornices, brocade drapes, and velvet cushioned chairs evoked a glamorous old-world style that we weren’t necessarily anticipating in Santa Barbara’s backcountry.
Both of our rooms were beautifully decorated, understated but sophisticated. Jazz music played throughout each room from the ceiling speakers (you can only control the volume from a small switch on the wall), a feature I found quite unique as I have yet to stay at another hotel that offers the same. The rooms also featured comfortable king-sized beds, stunning fireplaces, and gorgeous bathrooms with jetted tubs, steam showers, and L’Occitane bath products. The luxurious amenities didn’t stop there though.
A trip into wine country is all about indulging and the Santa Ynez Inn sure knows how to treat their guests. Mornings always begin with a gourmet breakfast while evenings end with a sweet treat in the parlor. But, perhaps, the most luxurious perk is their exclusive tasting passport. With every stay, guests are provided complimentary tastings for two at over a dozen world-class wineries. Kara and I were especially excited to see one of our favorite wineries, Sunstone Vineyards, on the list. All within a short drive from the Inn, you’ll easily find yourself spending hours savoring all the flavors of the valley.
And when you’ve had your fill of wine, retire to the library for a whiskey flight. With its rich, moody colors and equestrian details, the cozy library creates the perfect mood for a nightcap. It was definitely one of our favorite rooms, however, we also enjoyed bundling up around the outdoor fire pits.
You won’t regret staying at the Santa Ynez Inn. Whether you’re looking for a charming wine country escape, a fun girls weekend, or romantic getaway, the four-diamond rated Inn won’t disappoint. There’s so much to do and see in the valley, and why not start your experience in the heart of the turn-of-the-century namesake!
